Eighteen weeks to go....

Yikes!  That is a scary thought!  But our coach, Jack Fultz, assures us that it is plenty of time to ramp up and face the marathon head on.

This week, I've been taking things a bit easy.  My knee has been bothering me - nothing serious, my knee cap just tracks a little off, so there's some rubbing cartlidge.  Doesn't that sound awesome?  I've been doing my workouts on a Cybex Arc Trainer at the gym.  Apparently, it allows my body to mimic running without putting unnecesary pressure on my knee.  Did you know that when you run, each time your foot hits the ground there's 10X your body weight hitting your legs.  Scary thought.  I guess that's why runners are always so lean.

Training "officially" starts on Monday, so I am gearing up for 6 days per week of working out.  Let's hope the snow begins to melt VERY soon or I am going to have to invest in these things called YakTrax (http://www.yaktrax.com/)  Apparently they work well for traction on the ice and snow.  Regardless, I am glad to have a gym membership to use this evening for my workout.

Hey girls - i hope you're both feeling better from those nasty ear infections. Amanda - be sure to ice that knee after your workouts - i had to go to physical therapy for mine (not fun) and strengthen your hip abductors to keep consistent muscle strength around the knees. xx

Thanks Brandy! I am definitely taking all precautions with my knee and making sure I am 100% before I begin my training :)
